Corporate Comedian in Western Suburbs of Chicago

When I was a student at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL you could say I was a corporate comedian, even though I was a full-time student.  Those were good days.  I really enjoyed frequenting Naperville, IL, Lisle, Schaumberg.. Really, the list goes on.  There is so much to do out there. Oak Park, St. Charles, Aurora, I could name a bunch more suburbs.  And the people out there are so nice.

Image of Chicago Corporate ComedianWhat was I doing during my time there in Chicago?  Besides studying, I was picking up corporate gigs as a comedian and ventriloquist. I put an ad in Crain’s Chicago Business Journal and made back my investment with one comedy show (and believe me, advertising in that publication was nowhere close to inexpensive, but the demographic that I reached was well-worth it).  The people who read Crain’s (at least back then) are predominantly KDM’s (key decision makers), and they’re often the go-to people when corporate events happen and the “committee” needs help finalizing decisions.

I remember one show, when a Partner of Nike Securities, L.P. of Naperville, Illinois was in the audience. I guess he liked my comedy ventriloquism show so much, he started asking around until he was finally able to obtain my contact info. He approached me to see if I would come on staff full-time to entertain their top resellers who are flown to Chicago to enjoy a Chicago Cubs game and learn even more about the company.  I didn’t know it at the time, but putting together a comedy show that is uniquely tailored to promote a company or organization can be a major asset.  It strengthens their brand, plus there’s a famous quote that “when the mouth is open for laughter, it is open to new thought.” In other words, as a clean corporate comedian, I have an opportunity to engage an audience in a way that enables me to interject information that will have a major impact on the listeners.

Anyway, I’ve done many shows in the Chicagoland area, and enjoyed every bit of them.  Some of the venues are the Grand Ballroom at Chicago’s Navy Pier, the Bankers’ Club of Chicago, Drury Lane in Oakbrook, IL.  Really, I perform in Chicago at every opportunity I get.  I absolutely love the people and revisiting the city.  There is something magical about Chicago that can’t be understood until you frequent the place.

Lastly, I’ll mention that the Chicago I know isn’t the Chicago that was always there.  Thanks to Mayor Richard M. Daley (I believe that’s correct?), the downtown area is much safer than it was prior to his terms in office.  It really is a great place to live and visit, and the suburbs like Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Oakbrook Terrace, and I’m not even mentioning the northwestern and northern suburbs – which are awesome in their own right (Lake Forest, IL; South Barrington, IL; Evanston, IL, etc.). By the way, I haven’t done corporate entertainment in the Southern or Southwestern suburbs of Chicago, IL, so I don’t know yet firsthand what they’re like.  Hopefully someday soon!

Anyway, doing corporate comedy in the Chicago area is such a privilege, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to make people laugh!
